Qwest DSL Service Installation

DSL SELF INSTALLATION DSL INSTRUCTIONS:

Before attempting installing the DSL make sure that:

1. DSL service has been activated. You can begin set up after 5 p.m. on the due date for your high-speed Internet service.

2. You have received a modem install kit in the mail

What's included in the kit?

Your kit includes the following items:

  • Qwest modem with built-in wireless gateway ? actual model may vary
  • Cables to connect the modem to your computer
  • Four phone filters (three in-line and one wall mount)
  • Installation CD with step-by-step instructions for the complete installation process

It is not necessary to use the installation CD to setup the DSL. OpenAccess actuallu encourages you NOT to use the installation CD instead follow the steps as outlined below:

Step 1
unplug the phone and fax cables and attach the phone filter (also called micro filters) before plugging them back into the phone jacks. When phone filters are not used, or not installed correctly, you'll experience static on your telephone line so you want to make sure you use a filter for each phone you have connected at your house.

Step 2
plug the ethernet cable from the modem kit into your computer and the DSL router. If you do not have a ethernet card in your computer you will need to use the USB cable which is also to be found in the kit.

We recommend using Ethernet connection rather than USB when possible. Why is an Ethernet connection recommended over USB?
Ethernet connections utilize faster and more stable technology than USB connections.

Make sure any external dialup modem is not plugged in to your computer.

Step 3
On your computer go to network settings and set the TCP/IP to DHCP. Reboot computer.

Step 4

Type ?192.168.0.1? in the address field of your Web browser to access the DSL Modem home page. This is where you update the settings for the modem.

Set the connection type to PPPoA

Set the username and password to whatever your OpenAccess technician tells you.

Power cycle your modem and you should be online.

For more support on various modems including wireless modems go to Qwest's modem support page.

To set up laptop access to your wireless enabled DSL modem you will need to open the network settings on your laptop and then set the TCP/IP to DHCP. When prompted for the WEP key enter the key which you can find on a sticker on the DSL modem. You can either use the default 64 BIT (10 digits) WEP key from the sticker of the modem or change it. Use the above link to QWest's support page or call if you need instructions for how to change the WEP key.
